Minister of State Donegal based Charlie McConalogue has indicated that flights between Derry and Dublin may be reinstated by the end of 2026 using a PSO subsidy.

Derry Airport handled 48,000 travellers during the summer quarter of 2023, less than half of the airport’s peak performance in July-September 2011, which saw close to 130,000 travellers.

Direct flights between Derry and Heathrow will continue to be subsidised for two more years, following funding announcements from local and Westminster government departments.

McConalogue shared, “The Irish government are committed to stepping this forward and I have been liaising with the minister for transport and City of Derry management.”
