Travellers are reportedly avoiding visits to Japan this summer, with bookings from Asian countries down by as much as 50pc in comparison to last year.

Concerns stemming from the comic book “The Future I Saw,” published by Ryo Tatsuki in 1999, are speculated to be influencing this decline in travel.

The comic depicts a catastrophic event on July 2025, where a massive earthquake triggers a series of tsunami waves engulfing Japan.

Bloomberg Intelligence’s analysis of ForwardKeys data indicates that airline bookings from Taiwan and South Korea have been affected since April. Flights from Hong Kong to Japan have experienced an average drop of 50pc.
