EasyJet has announced plans to base three aircraft at Newcastle Airport starting in March 2026, marking its eleventh base.

The airline currently offers flights from Newcastle on four year-round (including Belfast) and five seaonal routes to destinations including Paris, Amsterdam, and Málaga, with a new route to Geneva expected to commence in December 2025.

Competitors such as Jet2 (13 year round and 38 seasonal), Ryanair (12 year round including Dublin and 6 seasonal), Loganair (3 year round and 2 seasonal), and TUI Airways (8 year round and 30 seasonal) also operate out of Newcastle with established crew bases. Newcastle handled 5,143,412 passengers in 2024. The destination hosted the ITAA conference in 2002.

CEO Kenton Jarvis noted that the airline is experiencing strong passenger demand for the upcoming summer season while facing capacity constraints due to reduced aircraft deliveries across Europe.

Despite industry challenges, easyJet maintains its fleet outlook, planning to finish the 2025 fiscal year with 356 jets and expand to 368 aircraft in the following year.

Kenton Jarvis shared that “the reduced OEM deliveries throughout Europe are leading to a more constrained capacity environment, which is seen in the seat growth we expect this summer. EasyJet was satisfied with the performance of its new London Southend base, saying it was delivering load factors ahead of the network average.”
