Severe storms in southern Germany led to a Ryanair flight making an emergency landing at Memmingen Airport late Wednesday.
The flight had 179 passengers and six crew, with the turbulence causing injuries to nine individuals onboard, including eight passengers and one crew member.
Three injured passengers required hospital treatment in Memmingen, while others received outpatient care.
Authorities prohibited the aircraft from continuing its journey, and Ryanair arranged bus transport for passengers to Milan, located around 380 kilometres south of Memmingen.
The German Weather Service anticipates more storm activity, including hail and strong winds in the following days.
German police shared “violent turbulence injured nine people on board. The pilot was forced to make an unscheduled landing at Memmingen Airport. Emergency services checked all passengers for injuries. Fire officials suspect a small tornado or waterspout caused the damage.”
