Aeroflot Group plans to take delivery of over 100 MC-21-300s by 2030, as confirmed by Chief Executive Sergei Aleksandrovsky in an interview with Russia-24.

The airline is preparing for operations with the MC-21-300, and many pilots have demonstrated interest in retraining for this new aircraft type, which recently received production approval from Russia’s civil aviation regulator.

Aeroflot Group aims to construct up to four additional hangars to service the new aircraft, which will enable the company to handle up to ten jets simultaneously.

The production targets align with Rostec’s goal of producing 200 Russian-made jets by 2030, despite UAC United Aircraft Corporation not yet initiating certification flights for the MC-21-300 powered by Aviadvigatel PD-14 engines.

Aleksandrovsky mentioned that Aeroflot’s subsidiary Rossiya will consolidate its fleet around the MC-21-300, eliminating other aircraft types and focusing solely on medium-haul operations.

Sergei Aleksandrovsky shared “We plan to switch to operating only medium-haul aircraft. As the fleet is replaced, we plan to operate only MC-21 aircraft in economy and comfort class configurations. Currently, Rossiya Airlines operates long-haul aircraft as well,” shared Aleksandrovsky, noting the strategic shift. Once these are delivered to Rossiya, the SJ 100s will be leased out to other carriers.
