Boeing is poised to assume control of a portion of Spirit AeroSystems’ operations in Belfast as efforts to identify an alternative buyer have stalled.

Spirit AeroSystems is the largest manufacturing employer in Belfast, employing approximately 3,500 people.

The break-up of Spirit’s business involves transferring non-Airbus operations to Boeing, following an announcement made in July last year.

Unions have voiced concerns regarding the division of the Belfast operations, advocating for the preservation of a unified identity.

Boeing aims to reintegrate Spirit’s operations into its portfolio, a move intended to remedy ongoing manufacturing challenges.

An Airbus spokesperson shared, “No such agreement has yet been reached and closing the transaction is now business critical for all parties.”
