Qantas is facing scrutiny as it’s the largest breach in Australia in recent years, as a hacker accessed a third-party customer service platform, compromising six million names and personal details.
The airline detected unusual activity on the platform and says it swiftly took action to contain the breach. It said the hacker did not access frequent flyer accounts or customer passwords, PIN numbers or log in details.
Last week, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation said cybercrime group Scattered Spider was targeting airlines and that Hawaiian Airlines and Canada’s WestJet had already reported breaches.
Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson remarked, “We recognise the uncertainty this will cause.”
