Ryanair is increasing its personal bag size by ten centimetres in response to new EU standards.
The new maximum bag dimensions will allow for items measuring 40cm x 30cm x 20cm, weighing under 10kg, the same length but ten centimetres wider than the old allowance.
Ryanair’s new free bag size surpasses the new EU minimum size limit for airlines.
WHERE WE ARE AT: New EU regulations on the size of cabin bags
Passengers are encouraged to verify baggage regulations directly with their airlines to avoid unexpected fees.
The European Parliament transport committee voted to give passengers an additional free hand luggage allowance of up to 7kg.
Ryanair shared: “lots of people have been talking about our agreed bag allowances and sizes, so let’s explain how r their bags work. If you’ve selected a basic fare, you agreed to bring one small bag for all of her essentials, which must be no bigger than 40 by 30 by 20 centimetres.
To make sure it fits under the seat, staff may place it inside the top section of our bag sizer. It must fully fit inside the sizer with no handles or straps sticking out. If it doesn’t fit, you will have to pay an additional charge of about €60 or pounds to bring it on board. Please note that our bad sizes at the airport are bigger than our max bag dimensions.
So if your bag doesn’t fit, even by a small amount, it is significantly bigger than our agreed bag dimensions. As you can see, our bag sizes have an extra allowance. If you selected priority and two cabin bags, you agreed to bring a small bag plus a bigger cabin bag up to 55 by 40 by 20 centimetres.
The bigger bag will need to go in the overhead lockers. There is only space for up to 100 of these bags on each plane, and with up to 197 persons on board, it is very important all passenger bags are the right size. To make sure your overhead locker bag fits, staff may place it in the bottom section of our bag sizer, which again, is bigger than our max bag dimensions. The whole bag must completely fit within the sizer.
The blue and yellow sticker lines show that our sizers have an extra allowance and are bigger than our agreed bag sizes, and only bags that do not fit within our sizes get charged for. If any part of your bag is larger than the bag sizer, including handles or wheels, even if it’s just a little bit, it’s significantly exceeds our green bag sizes and you will have to pay an additional bag charge of €75 or pounds for it to be placed in the hold. Please take your bag size before you fly, and only bring what you have agreed in your booking. Remember, there are plenty of bag options available, and you can add additional bags to your booking at any time.”
