Donegal’s Earagail Arts Festival, running from 16 to 26 July 2025, will bring a diverse programme of music, theatre, visual arts, literature, circus, and carnival events to venues across County Donegal. A bilingual festival, it offers a range of performances and activities suitable for all ages, from the Gaeltacht islands to the Inishowen peninsula and, for the first time, Donegal Town.

Visitors can expect a mix of ticketed and free events, including concerts featuring local and international artists, such as The Henry Girls, who will lead a five-day songwriting masterclass, alongside acts like Session Americana, Réalta, and Lisa Lambe with Steve Cooney.

Theatre productions, including innovative works like the hip h’opera H.O.M.E., and circus performances by Tumble Circus at Ionad Cois Locha in Dunlewey, will feature prominently. The festival’s Wild Atlantic Weekends, held in Castlefinn and Gaoth Dobhair, showcase street arts and circus camps, while visual arts exhibitions at venues like Artlink Fort Dunree and Donegal County Museum will display works by both established and emerging artists.

Literary events, such as The Journals Fleadh in Rathmullan and Ramelton, will bring together writers like Louise Kennedy and Stephen Sexton for workshops and discussions.

Family-friendly activities, including children’s discos and circus workshops, ensure accessibility, with many events priced affordably or free to encourage broad participation. The festival’s settings, from beaches and forests to purpose-built theatres, create a unique cultural experience tied to Donegal’s natural beauty.

Visitors can also explore local attractions like the Beltany Stone Circle or Donegal Castle, with accommodation options such as The Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny enhancing the experience.

Established in 1988 by Donegal County Council, the festival was created to celebrate and promote the region’s cultural heritage while fostering artistic exchange. It has grown from a local event into a significant summer festival, drawing around 40,000 visitors annually. The festival’s commitment to showcasing Donegal’s artists alongside international talent has been a hallmark since its inception, with a focus on accessibility and community engagement.
