Rwanda has conducted a historic test flight of the EHang EH216-S, a pilotless eVTOL drone, in Kigali, reaching 100 metres.
The two-passenger electric drone, priced at approximately €320,000, aims to enhance urban connectivity and economic dynamism in Rwanda. Rwanda’s prior experience with Zipline’s medical drone deliveries since 2016 supports its push for innovative aviation solutions.
The project involves a partnership with China Road and Bridge Corporation and EHang, positioning Rwanda as a leader in African air mobility. The demonstration signals Rwanda’s ambition to leapfrog traditional infrastructure, potentially enabling rapid transport solutions like 15-minute drone hops.
Jimmy Gasore Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure shared: “Rwanda is actively building a future where our cities are more connected and our economy is more dynamic through innovative transport solutions.”
Huang Qilin shared: “We are proud to partner with the Government of Rwanda to support their vision of becoming a pioneer in aviation technology.”
