European airline CEOs urged EU leaders for reforms to enhance competitiveness and support net-zero goals on 14 October 2025.

Air traffic delays reached 12m minutes in summer 2025, highlighting issues in EU airspace management. Current delay compensation rules, with a three-hour threshold, could be extended to five hours to reduce 40pc of delays.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) mandates increase costs, requiring a market intermediary and reinvested EU ETS revenues. The airline sector contributes over 4pc to EU GDP and supports 12m jobs.
