IATA has launched the “Travel Smart with Lithium Batteries” campaign on 15/10/25 to educate travellers on safe handling of lithium-powered devices.

A survey revealed 83pc of travellers carry phones, 60pc laptops, and 44pc power banks, but many misunderstand packing rules.

The campaign outlines seven rules, including keeping devices in hand baggage and protecting spare batteries to prevent short-circuits.

Multilingual digital assets, including an animated video, are available for airlines and airports to share with passengers.

The initiative addresses misconceptions, such as 50pc of travellers believing small lithium devices can be packed in checked luggage.

Nick Careen, IATA Senior VP shared: “Our campaign helps travellers follow simple rules to safely fly with lithium-powered devices. The animated video makes safety rules engaging and easy to remember for passengers.”
