United Flight 1093 from Denver to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Salt Lake City on Thursday after suspected space debris hit the windshield.

The pilot received cuts to his arm from flying glass, but none of the 130 passengers suffered injuries.

The incident occurred at 36,000ft, above typical bird or hail collision altitudes. NTSB is examining radar, weather, flight recorder data and the windscreen in its laboratories.

Up to four SpaceX Starlink satellites re-enter Earth’s atmosphere daily, though the company states no surviving debris results from deorbits.

Separately, aircraft flying in Irish airspace saw a large flare like incident, which was commented upon by air traffic control and pilots.
