Spirit Airlines amended leases for five Airbus A319s with Carlyle Aviation as part of its Chapter 11 restructuring.

The amendments adjust payment schedules and return provisions, targeting €230m in annual cost savings. Spirit will reduce its fleet from 214 to 115 aircraft by mid-2026, exiting 13 US airports. The airline secured €440m in debtor-in-possession financing and a €139m AerCap settlement.

Passenger traffic dropped 12pc in September 2025, with operations focusing on Florida and Caribbean routes.

Fred Cromer shared: “The Carlyle amendments will contribute to annual cost savings of €230m across the fleet rationalisation programme.”

Dave Davis shared: “The moves position Spirit to meet demand with 95pc utilisation on retained aircraft.”
