ITA Airways has estimated the cost of grounding 22 aircraft or 28pc of its 101-aircraft fleet due to Pratt & Whitney PW1000 engine recalls.

The carrier estimates total damages at €150m over five years from the ongoing inspections. Daily losses reached €82,000 as A220, A320neo and A321neo jets remained sidelined. Fifty-two of ITA’s aircraft used the affected PW1000G-series engines.

ITA prepared to sue Pratt & Whitney and parent RTX for compensation over operational disruptions.
