Broadhaven Bay Hotel on Ballina Road in Belmullet has received full planning permission from Mayo County Council for construction of a traditional thatched cottage visitor attraction centre together with all associated site development works on hotel grounds.

The council confirmed the decision eight days ago after processing the application lodged on 28 August 2025. No appeals against the grant have been lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála in the statutory four-week window, leaving the permission final and enforceable.

Hotel management now holds authority to proceed with site preparation and building works at any time. The development will occupy an unmarked portion of the existing hotel lawn facing the R314, with vehicular access retained through the main hotel entrance and pedestrian links created from the existing car park.

Mayo County Council imposed twelve standard conditions covering construction management, surface-water drainage, landscaping and protection of nearby coastal habitats, but attached no financial contributions or special levies.

Ground works may commence before Christmas 2025 subject to contractor availability, with the thatched cottage structure scheduled for completion in time for the 2026 tourist season. The centre will showcase Erris heritage displays and serve as an overflow venue for hotel conferences and weddings.
