Coventry Airport to finally close and make way for a battery factory

Rigby Group has revealed that Coventry Airport will close pernanently on 11 June 2026.

The closure will make way for the construction of a battery factory. The airport owner applied to the Civil Aviation Authority to cease operations. T

The last scheduled passenger flights used the airport in 2008, aat the end of four years when Thomsonfly had a base at the airport, including flights to Dublin. Pope John Paul II said mass for 350,000 at the airport on his visit to England on 30 May 1982.

The London High Court rejected a plan for permanent terminal facilities in 2007. The airport is just 22km from Birmingham airport, 130km from Heathrow and 177km from Bristol airport.
