Generative AI tools for travel research up 64pc – Amadeus at TIS in Seville

Generative AI tools for travel research have increased by 64pc year over year, according to an Amadeus report presented to the Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS2025) in Seville.

Over 8,000 professionals from more than 50 countries, gathered at the FIBES exhibition centre ,discussed the integration of artificial intelligence and sustainability in the travel sector.

The sixth edition of the event discussed the transformative role of social media in travel planning, and growth in use of AI to boost engagement in the booking process, and focused on agentic AI systems that plan itineraries independently and regenerative tourism practices that restore local communities.

Speakers from companies such as WeRoad, Lastminute.com, and Exoticca presented strategies for personalised travel experiences that incorporate direct management of destination services to ensure quality control. Panels addressed overtourism challenges through digital tools that enhance visitor management and resource allocation in cities like Seville and Dubrovnik. 

The Touristech Startup Fest selected 40 startups from over 400 applications to pitch innovations in big data, cybersecurity, 5G, and virtual reality to investors and executives. Discussions highlighted how AI supports marketing, guest experiences, and operations without replacing human interaction in hospitality. 

Sustainability sessions explored emotional storytelling and smart systems like D3HUB to promote responsible travel in regions such as Lapland. International delegations from Jamaica, Mexico, France, and Colombia shared insights on digital transformation and ethical practices.

A new global atlas of tourism startups was detailed to attendees, who accessed demonstrations of technologies for seamless connectivity from booking to checkout, aimed at small and medium enterprises.
