Strandhill in County Sligo has secured €50,000 funding for a tidal pool feasibility study to assess development potential.
The grant funds a feasibility study for a proposed tidal pool. The project aims to provide safer sea swimming access due to dangerous currents that prohibit open beach swimming. The study assesses options for recreation, health benefits, and year-round community use while supporting tourism and rural development. Local councillor Fergal Nealon welcomed the allocation as a major step forward.
The initiative addresses longstanding calls for a safe swimming facility in the popular coastal village. Earlier discussions noted that a traditional tidal pool might not suit the area to avoid impacting surfing conditions.
No construction timeline has been published as the project remains in the study phase. Advocates say the scheme is progress towards enhancing amenities without compromising the beach’s surf appeal.
