Tipperary County Council plans to construct a pedestrian footbridge over the River Small in Newport to link the town with the river.

The development includes resurfacing the existing lane with new footpaths connecting to Ball Alley and Park.

The scheme provides a safe, accessible and environmentally sensitive route that encourages active travel.

The footbridge spans from the south to the north bank of the River Small, with upgrading of the laneway preserving its rural character.

Submissions or observations on the plans open until 12 December at Nenagh Municipal District Offices or online on the Tipperary County Council website.

Tipperary County Council shared “This aims to provide a safe, accessible, and environmentally sensitive route that encourages active travel. The scheme includes the design and off-site fabrication of a footbridge, carefully positioned to span from the south to the north bank on the River Small as well as the upgrading of the existing laneway while preserving its rural character. The combined interventions are intended to improve mobility, promote outdoor recreation, and create a meaningful and lasting public realm enhancement for residents and visitors alike.”
