The Hawthorn by Galway Bay is preparing for its opening in May 2026 as Galway’s first new five-star hotel in over two decades with a €60m investment.

Located on a coastal headland near Oranmore along the Wild Atlantic Way the property integrated luxury accommodation championship golf and a destination spa. The hotel joined The Leading Hotels of the World collection and featured one hundred and fourteen guestrooms including junior and penthouse suites.

Culinary offerings included venues led by Head Chef Cedric Bottarlini with Takashi Miyazaki directing The Oystercatcher. The spa overlooked Galway Bay with treatments from Tata Harper and Maison Caulière while golf occurred on the course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr.

Peter Fitzgerald shared “The Hawthorn is deeply personal to our family. It represents decades of belief in this site and in Galway as a destination. We are creating something that reflects the warmth of the West, but at a level that stands alongside the best luxury hotels internationally. Because we are building it ourselves, every decision we make is meaningful. This is a hotel we will stand over for generations.”
