MALTA in March 2026: What’s new and what’s cool

0

Visitors to Malta in March 2026 encounter mild spring conditions that make the islands comfortable for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Daytime temperatures average around 16°C, with highs reaching up to 18°C on warmer days and nights cooling to about 10°C to 12°C, so light layers work well for mornings and evenings. Sunshine delivers roughly seven hours per day, while rainfall stays moderate at around 30mm to 40mm spread over seven to nine days, leaving plenty of clear periods for exploration.

The sea temperature hovers near 15°C, suitable for a brisk dip if desired, though most prefer to enjoy coastal views from the shore.

As part of the shoulder season, crowds remain light at major sites such as Valletta’s historic streets, Mdina’s medieval walls, and the Ħaġar Qim temples, allowing a relaxed pace without long queues. Accommodation options start from around euro 60 per night in many areas, and flights often come at reasonable rates. The month features several events that add interest to a trip.

On 8 March, International Women’s Day brings community gatherings and cultural displays in towns across the islands. St Patrick’s Day on 17 March sees lively celebrations in places like Gozo, with music, family activities, and Irish-influenced events in pubs.

The Mużika Mużika festival from 19 to 21 March at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali showcases original songs in Maltese, offering a chance to experience local music culture. Preparations for Holy Week begin towards the end of the month, with Good Friday processions on 3 April setting the tone for solemn observances in villages.

Freedom Day on 31 March includes a traditional rowing regatta in the Grand Harbour, marking historical ties with community spirit.

Beyond events, the month suits walks along coastal paths, boat trips to the Blue Grotto when weather permits, and visits to museums or gardens where spring flowers start to appear. March provides good value and agreeable weather for discovering Malta’s mix of history, scenery, and local traditions at a comfortable tempo.
