Galway County Council continues to pursue State funding estimated at €5m for repairs and reopening at Dunguaire Castle.
The Council has shown evidence due diligence and funding submissions since 2023. Talks with Shannon Airport Group resumed in summer 2025 without a transfer of ownership. Formal requests were made to the Office of Public Works and National Parks and Wildlife Service in January 2026.
