Offaly’s Birr Castle Demesne part of a UNESCO tentative list nomination has become eligible for extra state funding of €350,000 for conservation.

 The money supports the bid for full UNESCO World Heritage status for Ireland’s Historic Astronomical Observatories. The funding also aims to benefit local communities and tourism in the Midlands.
