The Frosch Ireland team has visited the Ernest Shackleton Experience in Athy. Jackie Sheehan joined the visit and reflected on the leadership of Ernest Shackleton during the expedition. The centre presents the story of the explorer who ensured the safe return of his entire crew.
The exhibition in Kildare details events where Shackleton faced extreme conditions in Antarctica. Jackie Sheehan noted the power of travel to connect people with larger stories. The visit highlighted themes of resilience and adventure connected to the location in Ireland, and Shackleton’s leadership qualities.
Jackie Sheehan shared: Today I stood inside the Ernest Shackleton Experience in Athy and felt something I haven’t felt in a long time, pure awe. A man who looked total disaster in the eye and brought every single one of his crew home alive. Not because the odds were good, they were about as bad as they come, but because he refused to let his men believe anything less than survival was possible. That kind of leadership still gives me chills, even sitting in a small exhibition in Kildare. Thirty years in this industry and I still believe travel is one of the most powerful things we do as human beings. We go looking for adventure, for connection, for stories bigger than ourselves. Shackleton’s story is that, turned all the way up. If you’re ever near Athy, go. Let yourself feel small for an hour. It’s good for the soul. Aline FitzGerald thank you so much for your time John Galligan thank you for your knowledge and inspiration! Frosch. Ireland oh and did someone mention Antartica.
