PARTY time: Ireland’s favourite Leaving Cert holiday resorts abroad

0

The same resorts crop up year after year in the list of favourite destinations for Irish students on post-Leaving Cert holidays, the classic summer blowout after exams. These spots are popular for their beaches, nightlife, affordability and party atmosphere. They are typically booked as package deals with groups of friends.

  • Albufeira (Algarve, Portugal): Has surged in popularity recently. Stunning beaches, cliffside views, lively Strip with bars and clubs, plus boat trips and water sports. Great mix of partying and daytime recovery.
  • Zante (Zakynthos, Greece) — especially Laganas or Kalamaki: Iconic for boat parties, the Shipwreck Beach, turtles, and buzzing nightlife. Laid-back beach vibes by day, energetic clubs at night. Very popular with Irish groups.
  • Ayia Napa (Cyprus): World-renowned clubbing destination with some of Europe’s best nightlife (e.g., Nissi Beach parties). Beautiful beaches and a strong party scene that’s heating up with better flights.
  • Malia or Hersonissos (Crete, Greece): Budget-friendly with energetic strip clubs, bars, beaches, and pool parties. A solid choice for non-stop fun and good value.
  • Santa Ponsa (Mallorca, Spain): Slightly calmer alternative to central Magaluf but still very social, with excellent beaches, pubs, and easy access to bigger nights out. Magaluf is just over the hill, more an English than an Irish destination, famous for wild nightlife (clubs, bars, foam parties), beaches, and cheap drinks.
  • Ibiza (Spain): The clubbing capital of the world (Pacha, Amnesia, Ushuaïa). More expensive but legendary for big-name DJs and beach clubs. Ideal if your group wants proper clubbing experiences.
  • Ios (Greece): Known for its chilled beach vibe by day and wild party scene in the main town (Chora) at night. Popular with younger crowds looking for a mix of relaxation and fun.
  • Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain): Reliable sunshine, beaches, and nightlife in places like Playa de las Américas. Good for groups wanting variety.
  • Hvar (Croatia): Emerging option with beautiful islands, boat parties, and a cool, scenic party atmosphere.
