- Seat selection fees reached over $160 on some routes.
A US federal judge has allowed a class action lawsuit against United Airlines over window seat charges to proceed. Passengers paid extra for seats shown as window positions on maps but found wall panels instead. The ruling came from US District Judge James Donato in San Francisco.
The case involves Boeing 737, 757 and Airbus A321 aircraft where some seats sit beside cabin walls due to internal architecture. United argued the term window referred to seat location only. Plaintiffs claim the airline failed to disclose the lack of actual windows.
Fees for such seats ranged from around $45 to more than $160. The complaint seeks over $5 million in damages. A similar case proceeds against Delta Air Lines.
Judge James Donato shared “No more is needed at this stage for the breach claims to go forward.”
