Switcher.ie has revealed its survey of common spending mistakes that add hundreds of euro to summer trips. 

Travellers heading outside the eurozone risk higher charges from poor exchange rates, card fees and roaming. The analysis compared 2025 and 2026 costs and found several expenses increased.

Travel insurance quotes rose from an average €98 to €112. Poor exchange rates on €2,800 cost an average €53 instead of €35. Return flights to New York increased from €421 to €534 at the low end.Eoin Clarke, consumer expert at Switcher.ie, advised comparison of options. Savings can reach up to around €900 through careful choices on flights, insurance, cards and roaming.
