  • United Airlines has blocked two middle seats on each A321XLR.
  • Fixed tables replace the seats in one row per aircraft.
  • The layout maintains 150 passenger seats.
  • Four seats per flight gain extra legroom.
  • United plans sales of the upgrade later in 2026.

United Airlines has blocked two middle seats on its A321XLR aircraft to create shared tables and extra elbow room, while continuing to maintain 150 passenger seats.

The airline adds fixed tables with leather-like covering and cup indentations in one row per aircraft. Passengers in the surrounding Economy Plus seats gain three extra inches of legroom. The configuration applies across the order of 50 A321XLRs. United studies extension to other aircraft.

The change keeps the aircraft below the FAA staffing threshold that requires an additional flight attendant.
