The Mayo senior football team is returning west by train from Dublin Heuston station today, following their historic All-Ireland Senior Football Championship victory over Kerry.
Mayo captured their first Sam Maguire Cup since 1951 with a 1-20 to 1-17 win at Croke Park, ending a 75-year drought.
The official celebration takes place at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park in Castlebar. Gates open early at 3:00 PM and there is entertainment with local music acts Gorilla Radio, Billow Wood, and For Folk Sake begin performing at 3:30 PM.
Andy Moran’s squad is expected to arrive and present the cup to the crowd at approximately 6:00 PM. The homecoming committee has prepared the venue’s management plan to cater for 30,000 to 40,000 fans.
Local Gardaí have implemented a heavy traffic management plan with diversions around Castlebar.. There is no public parking available at MacHale Park itself; attendees must use town car parks. High-risk items including alcohol, flares, and large flagpoles will not be allowed inside the stadium gates.
