Spain’s AEMET Weather Agency has forecast intense heat across Spain for the 12 August 2026 solar eclipse, with inland temperatures exceeding 35°C and hitting over 40°C in the south, northeast and Mallorca. Skies will mostly remain clear, though severe wildfire risks have persisted. The eclipse will occur low in the western sky near sunset on the evening of 12 August.

Widespread highs above 35°C have been recorded, reaching or exceeding 40°C in the northeast, southern valleys and Mallorca. Generally clear and stable weather has prevailed across most viewing regions, though some coastal and northern mountain clouds have appeared. Authorities have raised extreme wildfire alerts due to dry vegetation, urging high caution in rural and mountainous areas.

High-pressure systems have ensured excellent visibility with virtually no cloud cover on 11 and 12 August. The eclipse occurs close to sunset when temperatures remain very high. Heavy crowds at outdoor viewing points face prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Authorities have recommended carrying abundant water, wearing high-SPF sunscreen and wide-brimmed hats, using certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses, and avoiding strenuous physical activity during the hottest midday hours.
