Waterford Libraries has officially launched the open call for submissions for “West Waterford Writes,” its inaugural literary anthology . The new publication aims to celebrate the unique creativity, storytelling and local talent across the West Waterford region . Writers must be from or currently living in West Waterford to be eligible for submission .
The submission deadline is Friday 18 September 2026 at 5:00 PM, with pieces accepted in either English or Irish . Works must be original and previously unpublished, with AI-generated content strictly banned . Poetry entrants may submit a limit of three poems, while short story entrants may submit one story between 1,500 and 2,000 words . The anthology includes an award for the best poem or short story themed around travel, inspired by the legendary local travel writer Dervla Murphy .
Submissions are accepted via email only to library@waterfordcouncil.ie, with the subject line set to “West Waterford Writes” . Applicants must attach their files, label attachments clearly as either “Poetry” or “Short Story” and include their full name and physical address in the email for correspondence .
