The National Library of Ireland has launched its September events programme, featuring Culture Night celebrations on September 18 from 5pm to 9pm, with visitors able to explore the Main Hall, the Yeats exhibition and the iconic Reading Room. The library will also host live performances by the St. Mary’s College Singers and behind-the-scenes access to the Digitisation Studio, with limited availability for the Director’s Tour of the National Library. The Seamus Heaney exhibition at the Bank of Ireland Cultural and Heritage Centre and the Live Aid Exhibition at the National Photographic Archive will remain open late for the Culture Night celebrations.
The programme includes in-person events such as In Conversation with Reyna Grande discussing her historical novel A Ballad of Love and Glory, Harps and their Stories with Harp Ireland, and Reaching Readers events exploring translation and nationhood. The Dublin by Dusk series continues on Thursdays from May 28, 2026 through March 25, 2027, allowing visitors to experience the Reading Room and Live Aid Exhibition after hours. Online talks cover topics including Sir Charles Wogan, the Irish Colleges in Early Modern Europe, and the Irish and the European Empires.
The library also offers genealogy events including the Irish Genealogical Research Society Conference on September 12 and an eight-week Advanced Sources in Genealogy course commencing September 16. The Journey to A Vision guided afternoon tour of the WB Yeats Exhibition takes place on September 15 at 1pm. The library’s blog highlights a photograph of the Post Office in Portadown, Co. Armagh, taken by Robert French in June 1902, featuring Victorian-era signage and period details.
