Swiss has confirmed it will retire its last A340-300 by early 2028 as it continues the gradual phaseout of the type. The phaseout began with the introduction of its A350-900s in October 2025.
The Lufthansa Group subsidiary hopes to move the final A340-300 to the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne in early 2028. Swiss currently operates four A340-300s with an average age of 22.9 years.
Group CCO Dieter Vranckx confirmed in April that the group was looking to retire all old quadjets in the next two to three years. The retirement schedule aligns with the broader Lufthansa Group strategy to modernise its long-haul fleet with more fuel-efficient twin-engine aircraft.
