VisitBritain chair Harris Bokhari has highlighted the value of major sporting events during a visit to Wembley Stadium for the Union Jack Classic. More than 2m visitors come to England every year to watch sport generating £2.3bn (€2.65bn) in spending. That money supports hotels and high streets, restaurants and attractions according to VisitBritain. The chair met with 15,000 US visitors at the event.
Major sporting events like the Union Jack Classic are proven tourism draws attracting international visitors who stay longer, spend more and often go on to explore beyond London. The visit highlighted the importance of sports tourism to the England economy.
