Charleroi Airport is expecting 34 flights to be cancelled on Monday, 21 September 2026, because of an ongoing air traffic controllers’ strike. At least 21 other flights are expected to be rescheduled if the industrial action continues. The disruption stems from nightly walkouts by controllers working for Skeyes, the Belgian air navigation service provider.
Controllers have struck every night from 22:00 to 08:00 local time. The nightly action began on 16 September and is scheduled to continue until 10 October 2026. Even though the strike takes place overnight, it creates a knock-on effect for daytime flights. When late-evening arriving aircraft cannot land, they are left out of position, forcing the airport to cancel the next morning’s first scheduled departures. The airport’s major low-cost carriers, particularly Ryanair and Wizz Air, experienced the vast majority of these cancellations. Flights operating out of Brussels Airport (Zaventem), the city’s primary international hub, remained unaffected by this localised dispute.
Travellers scheduled to fly through Charleroi have been advised to take immediate action. Passengers monitor their email and app notifications from their airline before travelling to the airport. If a flight is cancelled, passengers are entitled to a refund or a re-routing to their destination under EU passenger rights regulations.
