The National Gallery of Ireland has confirmed its exhibition programme for 2027, with shows dedicated to the west coast of Ireland and German Expressionism. The gallery has scheduled a rehang of the national collection for the first time since re-opening in 2017. The programme includes the annual Vaughan Bequest display of Turner watercolours and the return of the AIB Portrait Prize competitions.
The Gallery hosted Hilma af Klint: Artist and Visionary from 15 October, marking the first major exhibition dedicated to the Swedish artist in Ireland. Tickets ranged from free to €16, with under 18s admitted free. A catalogue bundle ticket was available for €53. The exhibition was developed in partnership with the Hilma af Klint Foundation and funded as part of the Culture Programme for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
West: Art from the Edge of Ireland runs from 1 April to 11 July 2027 and brings together works by artists who turned their attention to Ireland’s western seaboard. German Expressionism opens on 9 September 2027 and runs until 9 January 2028, charting the work of Die Brücke and Der Blaue Reiter. The AIB Portrait Prize and AIB Young Portrait Prize return from 13 November 2027 to 12 March 2028.
