- easyJet expects Apollo takeover finalised early 2027
- Scheme document due 15 October 2026
- Stelios Haji-Ioannou family holds 15.3pc stake
- easyJet reducing capacity by up to 700,000 seats this winter
- Further fuel price increases would result in higher fares
EasyJet Group has expected its £5.7bn takeover by US private equity firm Apollo Global Management to be finalised early 2027. Chief executive Kenton Jarvis shared the timeline in a Bloomberg interview on 8 October 2026. Apollo agreed in August 2026 to acquire easyJet after rival bidder Castlelake withdrew.
The scheme document is due to be published on 15 October. The transaction will see easyJet retain its existing name. Founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou, whose family holds a 15.3pc stake, will have a board role following completion. As a US-controlled entity, Apollo must structure the transaction to comply with England and European ownership and control requirements governing easyJet.
Rising fuel costs are prompting easyJet to reduce capacity by up to 700,000 seats this winter. Jarvis warned that a further increase in fuel prices would result in higher fares. The airline had already cut about 700,000 seats earlier.
