Nuremberg Airport in Germany temporarily suspended operations on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, after a Corendon Airlines flight accidentally transmitted a hijacking emergency code. The airport briefly halted all flight operations after the incident involving flight XR456.

Corendon Airlines Flight XR456, a Boeing 737-800 travelling from Corfu, Greece, to Nuremberg, suffered a mid-air radio communication malfunction while flying over Croatia. Because the transponder code 7500 specifically indicates a hijacking scenario and air traffic control could no longer reach the pilots, international security protocols were triggered. Military fighter jets including a Croatian Rafale and German Eurofighters were scrambled to intercept and escort the passenger aircraft.

The aircraft landed safely at Nuremberg Airport around 12:16 PM local time. Special police forces cordoned off the facility to conduct an on-site inspection before declaring the area safe and allowing operations to resume normally. Corendon Airlines confirmed that at no point were any passengers or crew members in danger.
