The 24-hour public sector strike taking place today, Wednesday, 14 October 2026, is not expected to disrupt Dublin Airport operations and transport services are running normally. Union sources initially indicated that major transport hubs including Dublin Airport and Dublin Port could face disruptions from certain civil service sectors.

Official guidance clarifies that state bodies outside the core public service including the airport authority are not participating. The strike involves over 300,000 workers across health, education and civil service sectors due to a dispute over public service pay. Dublin Airport, commercial flights, public buses, Irish Rail, the Luas and An Post are all operating as scheduled.

Massive closures are impacting other sectors. Most schools across Ireland are closed, thousands of non-urgent hospital appointments have been cancelled and local authority public buildings such as Fingal County Council offices are shut down for the day. A second 24-hour public sector strike is planned for Wednesday, 21 October 2026 unless the Government and trade unions enter formal talks to reach a new pay agreement.
