Several major museums, cultural sites, and parks across Ireland are closed today, Wednesday, October 14, 2026, due to widespread public sector industrial action and strikes.
Major open national parks like the Phoenix Park and Killarney National Park remain largely open, though visitor centers or specific estate facilities may experience disruptions.
- National Museum of Ireland: All main branches—including Collins Barracks (Decorative Arts & Military History), Kildare Street (Archaeology), and Turlough Park (Folklife in Co. Mayo)—are closed. (Note: The Natural History Museum on Merrion Street is also closed for ongoing long-term renovations).
- National Gallery of Ireland: Closed for the day due to industrial action.
- Dublin Castle: Main castle site is closed for the year, though surrounding outdoor spaces like Dubh Linn Gardens remain accessible via Ship Street.
- Local City Council Facilities & Libraries: Public libraries and municipal archive buildings operated by Dublin City Council and other local authorities face full closures or service disruptions.
Many heritage sites, historic properties, and parks managed by the OPW also have localised closures or restricted access today due to the strike. Ross Castle is closed until further notice, and some sections of parklands (such as parts of Emo Court and Kilkenny Castle parkland) have restricted access. The Chester Beatty: Closed to the public until late December 2026.
