Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum has welcomed between 5.2m and 5.3m visitors during its inaugural year following its opening in November 2025. The landmark cultural destination has boosted tourism near the Giza Pyramids and hosted around 60 official visits from world leaders, kings and presidents. Daily attendance averages around 15,000 visitors as management works to balance high demand with crowd control.

To manage public turnout and combat internal overcrowding, the museum transitioned its operations to sustain a managed cap of 12,000 to 15,000 daily visitors. This measure represents a shift from early days of its opening when single-day crowds peaked as high as 27,000 people. Upgraded online reservation platforms were deployed to streamline bookings and prevent third-party ticket manipulation.

The museum marked its first anniversary by launching the Eternal Sun light-art experience in the Grand Hall, scheduled to run for six months. The facility houses over 100,000 artifacts, including the complete collection of more than 5,000 pieces from King Tutankhamun’s tomb displayed together.

Róisín Heneghan from Belmullet county Mayo is the architect for the centre and co-founder of the international design practice Heneghan Peng Architects.
