Coach operator Dublin Express and Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail have introduced a new ticketing initiative for passengers traveling to Dublin Airport.
The agreement allows travellers to book a single ticket for their entire journey, including a connecting bus ride with Dublin Express from Heuston Station to the airport.
During a trial period, sales increased nearly four-fold in just three months, according to the bus operator.
The joint rail and bus ticket service will be expanded to Connolly Station passengers from locations like Sligo, Belfast, and Maynooth.
The initiative is seen as a sustainable, convenient, and affordable transport option, helping to reduce the number of car journeys to the airport. John Boughton, National Express managing director said “we estimate 33pc of airport travellers will use public transport this year and this will only increase in the years to come.” Irish Rail chief executive Jim Meade said that the partnership with National Express will enable more people to “choose a sustainable, seamless and convenient transport option when travelling into Heuston and onwards to Dublin Airport”.
