Spirit Airlines has grounded 25 Airbus aircraft for inspections as a precautionary measure, resulting in flight cancellations and impacts on their schedules.
Citing “an abundance of caution,” Spirit stated that the inspections are necessary but did not provide a specific timeline for their completion.
The airline’s cancellation rate decreased throughout the week, indicating some progress in resolving the issue. The inspections were reportedly conducted on airframe brackets for possible fatigue cracks, rather than on the Pratt & Whitney engines that have caused previous recalls.
Spirit operates a fleet of 207 narrowbody Airbus aircraft, including 23 A319-100s, 62 A320-200s, 82 A320-200Ns, 30 A321-200s, and eight A321-200NXs.
