
Margaret O’Donoghue of The Gleneagle Group will be honoured at a reception in Muckross House, joining a prestigious list of previous recipients recognized by Cáirde Chill Áirne.
Margaret was born in Shanara, Beaufort, and began her career at Killarney’s Great Southern Hotel. She married Maurice O’Donoghue, and together they developed The Gleneagle Hotel into a popular holiday destination.
The O’Donoghue family’s entrepreneurial spirit led them to develop other successful properties, including the Gleneagle INEC Arena, Brehon Hotel, Scott’s Hotel, and The Maritime Hotel.
The Gleneagle Group is now run by their eldest son, Patrick. Margaret is being recognized for her enormous contribution to the tourism industry.
The award, known as the Order of Inisfallen, was established in 2005 to acknowledge outstanding contributions to Killarney’s economic development and tourism industry.The award will be presented by the Mayor of Killarney at Muckross House on December 11, and Margaret O’Donoghue will be the guest of honor at the Kerry branch of the Irish Hotels Federation’s Christmas Ball held at The Gleneagle Hotel later that evening
