Ryanair CEO, Michael O’Leary has accused Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, and other airlines of raising prices aggressively, with fares that are double or even multiple times higher than Ryanair’s own prices.
In a sales call after the release of Ryanair’s summer results, he said that limited airline capacity, combined with slow delivery of new aircraft, is expected to contribute to higher airfares for the next four years or so, due to increased passenger demand.
Ryanair has already seen strong bookings for the upcoming Christmas period and early next year.
Ryanair’s CFO, Neil Sorohan, attributed increased demand to extreme temperatures during the summer, with more people from hot countries booking trips to Ireland.
He said if the passenger capacity cap issue at Dublin Airport is not addressed, as it may result in Ryanair having to relocate some aircraft.
