ASL Future Flight, owned by ASL Airlines Ireland, has received a Light UAS Aircraft Systems Operator Certificate (LUC) from the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA). This certificate allows them to conduct commercial drone operations without an additional operational authorization from the IAA, and includes the delivery of light cargo over short distances.

The LUC authorizes ASL Future Flight to operate drones that are less than 3 meters in diameter and have a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 25 kg. Under this authorization, they can conduct short-range cargo operations, enabling them to deliver small packages weighing up to approximately 5 kg.

ASL Future Flight plans to use their LUC to train and gain experience in drone operations before venturing into heavier and longer-range operations. They are considering using larger drones in the future, which would require a Certified Category Authorization similar to an airline’s Air Operators Certificate.

ASL Airlines Ireland managing director, John Rawl said: “This LUC shows ASL’s commitment to be ready, willing and able as unmanned aircraft become larger and capable of operating over wider networks.”
