Tourism Ireland will no longer focus on broad consumer campaigns aimed at attracting travellers from emerging markets, incoming CEO, Alice Mansergh has disclosed.

Instead, they will collaborate primarily with tour operators to attract high-spending tourists.

“An important consideration for the organisation is the revenue generated per carbon footprint. We aim to bring in visitors who provide value-added to the economy, rather than those who merely leave a carbon footprint without contributing significantly.”

She said careful decision-making was to be made regarding targeting new business, particularly from countries like China and Japan.

Pre-pandemic arrivals from Australia into Ireland were 245k or 2.1pc of the overall inbound market. Those from USA were 17.3pc and Canada 2.3pc.
