the Dutch government has suspended its plans to cap the number of flights at Amsterdam Schiphol airport in 2024.
The planned cap of 460k flights was aimed at reducing noise pollution. Earlier this year, airlines including KLM, easyJet, TUI, and Delta challenged the plans in court, but the court of appeal ruled in favour of the Dutch authorities.
The cuts led to several US carriers being denied slots at Schiphol for summer 2024, which prompted a threat of retaliation by US authorities. KLM and the International Air Transport Association welcomed the government’s U-turn, stating that it prevents retaliation and allows for continued flights to the US.

Amsterdam Schiphol expressed disappointment with the decision, as it believes local residents are disadvantaged. The airport continues to advocate for measures such as a night closure, banning private flights, and prohibiting the noisiest aircraft to reduce disturbance for local residents.
