Netflix’s hit series Wednesday is rumoured to shift to Co Wicklow for its second series.:
A spin-off of The Addams Family, logistical challenges during production in Romania where the first series was filmed, has led the makers to consider Ireland as the filming location for the second season.
Potential filming locations in Ireland might include Ballinastoe Woods near Roundwood, near Lugh Tay which featured in Vikings: Valhalla, the National Botanical Gardens in Dublin, and castles in the midlands.
The success of shows like Star Wars and Game of Thrones has featured on Tourism Ireland’s marketing campaigns.

Wicklow has a track record of hosting Hollywood productions, making it an attractive option for Netflix. The region recently hosted films like The Last Duel, The Pope’s Exorcist and Disney’s Disenchanted.
Wednesday follows the story of Wednesday Addams, the daughter of Morticia and Gomez, after she is shipped off to the magical boarding school of Nevermore Academy during the first season, which featured locations including the gothic Cantacuzino Castle and Bucharest Botanical Gardens. It quickly became the most popular English-language series on the platform when it was released last November with 252m viewers.
Wicklow tourism officer Fred Verdier said “being chosen as the location for Wednesday would be great news for us, Holywood was named after a village in Wicklow and now the Hollywood of Europe is the name that was given to us by Jane Seymour.”
